Standing Glute Exercises With Trainer Julie Diamond

All year, we’ll be working with L.A.-based trainer Julie Diamond on perfecting our workouts. In this first of a series of videos, Diamond and The Fine Line founder Sue Cowie tackle three moves that target the largest of the muscle groups: glutes and legs. Diamond reminds us that when we work to tone the big muscles of the lower body, we get the heart rate up fast and burn lots of calories.

No matter what type of exercise you’re doing, setup and form are of paramount importance. A good foundation and proper body alignment for squats and lunges keep you safe and ensure the exercises are effective. And don’t forget to breathe.

When you feel like you’ve mastered an exercise and you’re ready to progress to the next level, add hand weights. Start light and move to heavier weights as you build strength and stamina. But keep challenging yourself!
