A Holistic Natural Skin Care Guide: Lifestyle

Skin health begins with understanding the connection between the products you put on your skin and the impact your nutrition and lifestyle have on your overall well-being. When you’re thinking about skin care, a holistic approach that emphasizes the interconnectedness of what you apply to your skin, how you feed your body, and how you live your life will prove to be the healthiest and most sustainable way to achieve true beauty wellness both inside and outside.

This third part of a three-part holistic natural skin care guide emphasizes the impact of good nutrition on skin health. Read the first part and the second part.


Seek Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Balance

Finding physical, emotional, and spiritual balance allows us to be the best version of ourselves while living a life that is healthier, balanced, and more sustainable.

Simplify to Avoid Stress

A life without any stress feels impossible, but where you can make changes to reduce stress (or avoid it), do so. Stress avoidance can be as simple as planning meals ahead of time to avoid the after-work overwhelm or it could mean creating some boundaries in a stressful relationship. Make stress-reducing changes slowly, one at a time, so that they feel manageable and sustainable.

Get Adequate Rest

One of the absolute best things for your skin is rest. While you enjoy the wonders of sleep, your internal systems working to regenerate at the cellular level. The result is not only the feeling renewed in the morning, but looking renewed as well. Give yourself the gift of rest: Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep per night.

Incorporate Regular Exercise

Yoga, running, a power walk — whatever brings you joy and some sweat — is something your skin needs. Sweat flushes out toxins, which we prefer to keep off our face, so let your workout do some of the work for you. Regular exercise also releases endorphins, which create a feeling of happiness and well-being — and no frown lines.

Laugh Often

The ability to laugh in the face of difficult situations can breed happiness and a capacity to cope during times of high stress.

Treat Yourself

If your lifestyle consists of running from one responsibility to another, you may need to increase your me-time. Take time each day to engage in activities you enjoy.

Live With Passion and Purpose

Living a happy life that’s aligned with your purpose is a kind gesture to your body, as well as your community and environment. Make time every day to engage in stress-reducing self-care activities that nourish the mind, body, spirit — and skin.
