A Few Natural Remedies for Menopause Symptoms

We all want to age gracefully, but that can be challenging as the years roll by and menopause approaches. When we start to sleep less, let stress get the better of us, and find our hormones out of whack, what can we do to feel better?

The Fine Line founder Sue Cowie chats with Elissa Goodman about natural remedies for easing the imbalances in our bodies as we age. Goodman, who is an L.A.-based holistic nutritionist, recommends a number of products we’ve incorporated into our own wellness regimens.

Goodman says that the mineral magnesium works wonders for improving rest — and we can personally attest to that! Additionally, she suggests vervain and valerian root oils for those suffering sleep disturbances.

And for those with an overactive mind: white chestnut oil.

Adrenal fatigue is top of mind for many women these days, and during menopause it’s especially important to support the adrenal glands, Goodman says. Two tools in her toolbox: the herb ashwagandha and Tulsi Tea, a tea made from the holy basil plant, which is also a natural remedy for infection.

And finally, Goodman says she uses walnut oil. It is known as a “link breaker” and is helpful for people in transitions, including those traveling through time zones — which, funnily enough, seems like a metaphor for menopause to us!
